Cloud Hosting question by Chris S: Need help connecting to remote desktop in Windows?
I’m trying to connect to my home computer (w7pro) using the remote desktop client. I think I’ve set it up correctly ( http://img832.imageshack.us/i/rdcfail.png/ = pics of my settings on host). But when I try to connect with my client (w7starter; http://img203.imageshack.us/i/rdcfail2.png/ = client connection settings), I get an error message ( http://img189.imageshack.us/i/rdcfail3.png/ ). I’ve never done RDC before so I’m not sure where I went wrong. No, I’m not using my 192.168.x.x IP to connect.

Also using a linksys router WRT54G2.
Host is running Rising Antivirus free version.
Client is running Panda Cloud free version.

Any other info needed let me know.

Not sure if Windows 7 starter supports RDP/RDC, but I’m going to assume it does.

You have to have your ports forwarded on your router.
e.g. if computer with RDP setup up has an IP of 192.168.1.100. You would set your router to forward all incoming connections on port 3389 to IP 192.168.1.100.

If you haven’t already, open port 3389 in your firewall. If you have one.

For security reasons. You should remove “everyone” from the Remote Desktop Users and add only the specific accounts that will be using it with. It should work after that. Keep in mind that if your ISP issues dynamic address. You will need to adjust your connection settings to reflect it. Also if the machine that you are connecting to gets a different IP assigned to it from your router. You would have to change your router configs to reflect that as well.

Did you add the correct user to the list of RDC users? Even though it says incorrect password. It could also mean that the user account isn’t setup for RDC or isn’t correct at all or a combination of both.

I remember the first time I started. I was thinking it was the "cool" thing to do. I sat in my bathroom smoking cigarette after cigarette staring at the mirror as the smoke comes out. 15 minutes later, I finally realized something… I’m getting sick.

When you light up a cigarette, it goes directly through your bloodstream, affecting many parts of the body including your heart, metabolism, and even your brain. This causes you to age faster, eat inconsistently and think slower.

I use to be a heavy smoker – even when I had two babies. I kept thinking that it’s okay, because I go outside to smoke – never inside.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and recently I tried to connect to my Xbox 360 to watch movies in Hi-Def. Every time I open Media Center, it tells me my extensibility host has stopped working. I’ve tried to uninstall and reinstall the program, but because it came installed on my laptop, it doesn’t give me an option to uninstall. BTW, I’m using a Sony VAIO Laptop, model is VGN-NR123E. IE doesn’t seem to support wsh objects and methods. I keep getting errors like “Object required ‘WScript’” and “ActiveX component cannot create object ‘GetObject’. Is there some libraries you can include to IE.
If not is there a way to call a .vbs or .js file from a web page?
If it can be done via AciveX, how??? All the sample codes not working on my ‘puter. As far as the security issues, the site this is for is username/password protected and only will have about 8 users.

u can call a function written in some other .js file or u can call a vb function written in .vbs file but nowadays browsers will not allow u to run a script file directly from ur code because of security reasons.

1) Install the kernel (of course) the bootloader, a shell environment and whatever daemons/software you think you will need. Recommended: sshd for remote access, httpd for webserver (such as apache or lighttpd) with PHP support, perl, mysql…

2) Depends what you want to host/do.

3) Depends on your firmware, the WRT54GL is known for its ability to run many different firmwares (usually port forwarding is on Applications & Gaming in case you have a GUI, in OpenWRT, things are different and I am not familiar with that firmware, I use DD-WRT).

4) Your computer’s IP will be given by /sbin/ifconfig
Notice that if you are to do hosting, and port forwarding, you should have your router do a Static DNS on that specific machine, so it always forwards the ports you need.
