Image Hosting
Article by Juan C Ruiz
With the evolution of multimedia in the flash of the century, there had been a roll call demand of resources that could just as possibly be available through online networks. As the need for miniature scaled electronics with high power and memory increases, persistently following along the way is the necessitation for alternatives. When the digital era made its mark within a decade, gone were the days that one had to pay big time for printing and developing pictures you took of your most memorable pictures; and the hassle that goes along with not being able to show everybody what you did. In comes the idea of image hosting, an online service that enables the user to upload pictures on a server and allow other people to view it through customized codes. These services are usually free and only needs registration so as not to spam the server which could result in a website crash. Though there are some that ask minimum donations for the advertisers to continue with the running of the site without causes of delay or disturbances. Some examples to name a few of this are ImageHosting.com, ImageShack and TinyPic.
Since then, web surfers have already discovered this easy and convenient online tool, thus creating the requirement of several kinds of image hosting websites to be put up. These different sites vie for users by advertising their bandwidth, privacy and safety clauses and overall uploading and downloading memory. Despite the recent popularity of the service, it cannot be helped that it is very much inevitable for concerns to arise. One contending problem would be copyright and piracy issues. As it is a free world for users to share what they have around the globe, there are still certain rules about the non-credited works that could be easily transported from one click to another. It is known that image hosting does not actually limit itself to pictures alone, because a user can always save a document or any information from the internet as a photo file and have access to upload it onto a server. This is not the primary concern of the site anymore as it is the user’s discretion.
Another more fervent apprehension of users is their privacy and the anxiety of being a victim of internet fraud and scandals. Once you upload your pictures, it becomes somehow the property of the image hosting website, with your consent and knowledge that it will all be public property. Personal pictures can come up on search engines and random people can use them, in any way they please, without your permission just because it is available and ready for the picking. This service is patronized by millions and has also been incorporated in some social networking sites as well to optimize the use of each account made, but it does not always guarantee your privacy and safety. These are only a few of the more serious setbacks a user can experience through the service. Hosting images are very popular and convenient, but remember that engaging in such activities come with great responsibility towards the repercussions that one can acquire.
