UPDATE: WP Robot is resource intensive and starts pounding your DB quite hard. My guess is VPS won’t help you much even if you are able to change the file write permissions with it. It’ll cause a surge in CPU usage and you might be banned from you host. Another thing is probably not to go with unlimited hosts in that case because they’ll have crowded servers, some of the people happily eating the resources because of the ‘unlimited’ tags attached to their web hosting plans. I say this even though I’ve heard people being happy with HG and WP Robot. Talk to Downtown or MDD on the link I gave you and see if they’d be able to help you out with those permissions (they oblige sometimes). If not shared, semi-dedicated is an option. Also, when you have WP Robot, consider having db cache plugins. It might help a bit.
